Best Practices in Management of Fungal Pneumonias:
Primary Care and Emergency Medicine Perspectives

INTRODUCTION
Fungal community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), as caused by the dimorphic fungi Blastomyces, Histoplasma, and Coccidioides spp., is frequently underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Healthcare providers in front-line primary care, urgent care, and emergency medicine settings are in key positions to diagnose fungal CAP, thus reducing diagnostic delays and improving outcomes.
In this course, we have captured best practices from primary and emergency medicine providers in the management of fungal CAP, with a focus on the implementation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) clinical testing algorithms for blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, and coccidioidomycosis.
