Every day during Fungal Disease Awareness Week, we will explore a different fungal topic. This image illustrates the important topics that will be addressed each day.
Fungal Disease Awareness Week 2025 – Archive

Fungal diseases are rising globally—and many go undiagnosed. Join us Sept 15–19 for #FungalWeek25 to learn how to recognize, prevent, and treat these serious infections. Help us spread awareness that could save lives. 🔗 Learn more: https://bit.ly/4dyCy6u
Monday, 9/15: Testing and Antifungals

Overuse or misuse of antifungal medications can lead to antifungal-resistant infections. Confirming fungal diagnoses with laboratory testing helps ensure the correct diagnosis and treatment.
Appropriate use of antifungals improves patient outcomes and is important for preserving available treatment options. #FungalWeek25. Learn more: https://wb.md/3T1roPE

Tuesday, 9/16: Fungal Disease and One Health

Sporotrichosis has typically been caused by Sporothrix in plant matter. In the last two decades, the species S. brasiliensis emerged and is linked to cat-to-human transmission. While it has not spread locally in the U.S., cat-transmitted sporotrichosis is widespread in South America, causing more severe infections including among immunocompetent patients. #FungalWeek25. Fungi are all around us—sometimes in ways you wouldn’t expect. 🌬🌱🐾
They live in soil, ride wildfire smoke, and can even spread from pets to people. Explore how fungi impact human and animal health:

Wednesday, 9/17: Neglected Tropical Diseases

Chromoblastomycosis, sporotrichosis, and mycetoma are neglected tropical diseases affecting the skin. Left untreated they lead to bone damage, tissue fibrosis, skin cancer, and even amputation.

Thursday, 9/18: Fungal Pneumonias

Some fungal infections—Valley fever, histoplasmosis, and blastomycosis—can look like pneumonia and often go undiagnosed. #FungalWeek25 save or print CDC’s diagnostic algorithms to diagnose and treat these fungal diseases. https://bit.ly/3yQu4sq

Fungal pneumonias like Valley fever, histoplasmosis, and blastomycosis can look like bacterial pneumonia—and are often missed.
