Fungal Disease Awareness Week 2026

September 14-18, 2026

10th Annual  •  September 14–18, 2026

Fungal diseases start where life happens.

Fungal exposures occur where patients live, work, travel, and receive care. During Fungal Disease Awareness Week, Fungus Education Hub is joining CDC and partner organizations to help healthcare professionals recognize fungal infections earlier, select appropriate diagnostic testing, and connect with practical clinical education.

Fungal Disease Awareness Week 2026 daily topics: primary care, antifungal resistance, travel-associated infection, skin infections, and fungal diagnostics and therapeutics

One topic each day

Clinical tools for every FDAW topic.

CDC created the campaign graphics and key messages. We paired each daily topic with provider-focused algorithms, courses, webinars, and clinical resources available through Fungus Education Hub.

Monday, September 14

Primary care

Talk to your doctor if you have an infection that is not getting better. It could be fungal.

Primary care, urgent care, and emergency clinicians are often the first to evaluate fungal pneumonias. When community-acquired pneumonia does not improve as expected—or exposure and travel history raise concern—consider endemic mycoses and use testing algorithms early.

Antifungal resistance

Antifungal resistance is a major challenge to treatment.

Resistance can complicate treatment across yeasts, molds, and dermatophytes. Stewardship depends on accurate identification, appropriate antifungal selection and dosing, susceptibility data when available, and therapeutic drug monitoring when indicated.

Travel-associated infections

Tell your healthcare provider where you have recently traveled and about possible environmental exposures.

Travel and environmental history can be important diagnostic clues. Ask about medical tourism, cave exposure, wildfire smoke, soil disruption, and time spent in regions where coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, and blastomycosis are endemic.

Fungal skin infections

Fungal skin infections, including ringworm, can look like other skin conditions. The right diagnosis matters.

Drug-resistant dermatophytes and emerging sexually associated infections may resemble more common dermatoses. Confirm the diagnosis, obtain a detailed exposure history, and be alert to treatment failure or atypical presentations.

Fungal diagnostics and therapeutics

Research and development are needed to improve the diagnosis and treatment of fungal diseases.

Rapid, accurate identification and susceptibility testing support clinical decision-making and antifungal stewardship. Explore advanced diagnostics, reference laboratory information, and case-based education designed for clinicians.
