Candida auris Prevention and Management: A Case-based Course

Do you work at a hospital or a long-term acute-care facility? Do you want to learn more about preventing and managing C auris infections? CDC has issued helpful resources to assist you, including the  Interim Guidance for a Public Health Response to Contain Novel or Targeted Multidrug-resistant Organisms (MDROs). This case-based course is designed to help illustrate the use of CDC guidance on issues such as:

Infection Control and Prevention

  • Containment guidelines
  • Environmental control, duration of precautions
  • Disinfection procedures
  • Addressing patient transfers

Diagnosis and Management

  • Diagnosis and susceptibility testing
  • Determining whom to treat
  • Overall treatment approach
  • Management of antifungal-resistant C auris

After completing this course, participants should have an improved understanding of the infection control and prevention and management of C auris.

The course consists of 5 cases that illustrate various aspects of care for patients at risk for or diagnosed with C auris. At the end of the course, there is a final examination. Participations who pass the final exam will receive a certificate from MSGERC recognizing their participation in the course.

The course is aimed at anyone who would like to deepen their understanding of the management of C auris. However, there is content specifically tartegeted to infection preventionists in the long-term acute-care hospital and hospital setting as well as infectious diseases specialists. The main audience target is listed with each case.

We acknowledge the contributions of the listed faculty as well as Jeremy Gold, MD; Shawn Lockhart, PhD; and Dallas Smith, PharmD, for content review.
