For Immediate release: Integrita Foundation’s MYCARE initiative is pleased to announce the publication of the article, Shared Vision for Improving Outcomes for Serious Fungal Diseases: Report of a Patient, Caregiver, and Clinician Summit, in Open Forum Infectious Diseases in April 2024. This groundbreaking publication has been featured as an Editor’s Choice article.

WHEN: Monday, May 13, 2024

WHERE: Colorado Springs, Colorado

WHAT: The article summarizes key takeaways from a May 2023 summit that convened patients with invasive fungal disease (IFD), their family caregivers, clinical and research experts, patient advocacy professionals,  industry representatives, and government officials to discuss the patient experience as well as challenges in medical mycology, The summit participants listened to patient and caregiver stories and then workshopped topics in research, advocacy, and education to document perceived perceptual gaps between patients and professionals and to develop consensus recommendations to improve outcomes in mycology. Specific strategies to help close these gaps were also discussed.

According to Dr Lisa Tushla, managing partner at Integita/MyCARE, “The Summit was such a powerful meeting. Through this Open Forum Infectious Diseases publication, we are thrilled to build on that momentum and engage the wider medical community as MyCARE continues to gain traction. Bringing the patient voice to the table in mycology and supporting patients and caregivers will make such a huge difference.”

According to Rob Purdie, “Despite the wide variety of diseases and experiences represented at this Summit, the similarities experienced by patients and caregivers in diagnosis, treatment, and residual issues is striking.”
