Fungal Disease Awareness Week 2024

September 16–20, 2024

The Growing Need to Think Fungus

At a glance

Fungal Disease Awareness Week (FDAW) is September 16-20, 2024. Fungal diseases are increasing worldwide with antimicrobial resistance on the rise and emerging fungal species causing more severe infections. There are no vaccines for fungal disease prevention, misdiagnosis is common, and there are only three classes of antifungal medications for treatment. Join CDC and partners around the world for #FungalWeek24 to help raise awareness and save lives.

Unmasking Valley Fever: Catching the Soil-Borne Culprit Early.

Valley fever is becoming an increasingly concerning issue in Central California and neighboring counties, with cases rising significantly each year. Timely diagnosis and effective management are vital, as delays can lead to serious health consequences.

We invite you to join us on Wednesday, September 18th for a free lunchtime webinar, “Unmasking Valley Fever: Catching the Soil-Borne Culprit Early.” This program is hosted by Dr. Geetha Sivasubramanian, MD, FIDSA, Division Chief, Infectious Diseases at UCSF Fresno, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

During the webinar, Dr. Sivasubramanian will discuss real-life Valley Fever cases, tackle diagnostic challenges, and present best practices for early detection and treatment. Joining her, Dr. Mitsuru Toda and Samantha Williams from the Mycotic Diseases Branch of the CDC will delve into the public health implications of Valley fever. The presentations will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

This enlightening program coincides with the CDC’s Fungal Disease Awareness Week 2024, running from September 16-20. Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding and skills in addressing Valley Fever.
