Welcome to the Fungal Diagnostics Hub. This section of FungusEducationHub.org provides a range of clinical resources, educational activities, and additional resources on fungal diagnostics. These offerings are curated to help you navigate fungal diagnostics and provide the best care possible to patients at risk for or diagnosed with fungal infections. We hope you find these resources helpful, and we welcome your thoughts on additional offerings that we may provide here.

Episode 11—Could it Be Fungal? Exploring Clinical Scenarios
Archived from January 7th, 2025
Fungal infections can manifest in many ways, making diagnosis challenging. When should you think fungal? What are the skin, central nervous system, and pulmonary signs and symptoms that should trigger a fungal diagnostic workup? In this webinar, expert infectious diseases experts Dr Derek Bays and Dr Patrick Mazi present clinical scenarios where a fungal workup is appropriate. This discussion will include clinical scenarios to help the non-specialist recognize clues in fungal etiology and begin the fungal diagnostic process.
Clinical Resources
Endemic Mycoses Clinical Diagnostic Algorithms
CDC, in conjunction with the Mycoses Study Group Education & Research Consortium (MSGERC) and the Coccidioidomycosis Study Group (CSG), developed a set of algorithms to support the recognition and diagnosis of endemic mycoses in the setting of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).
These endemic algorithms have been created to help you understand when to “think fungus” and facilitate the diagnosis of blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, and histoplasmosis in the primary care and urgent care setting. We hope you find these helpful. In addition to the algorithms themselves, we have a range of additional resources to assist you in applying them in clinical scenarios.

Clinical Courses
Coming Soon! New ISHAM Course: Application of Fungal Diagnostics in Clinical Scenarios
We are excited to announce that the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM) course, Application of Fungal Diagnostics in Clinical Scenarios, is coming soon. This will be a companion resource to the newly updated ISHAM Diagnostic Mycology Course.
The course will consist of 5 cases representing diagnostic decision making in a range of patient types as outlined below. You may select and review the patient types relevant to your practice. Participants who pass the final course exam covering all cases will receive a certificate from ISHAM recognizing their completion of the course.
The course is aimed at anyone who would like to deepen their understanding of fungal diagnostics.
The case types will include diagnostic challenges related to IFIs occurring in the following host types:
- Pediatrics
Dr Alida Fe Talento
- Hematology Oncology/ Stem Cell Transplant
Dr Joy Sarojini Michael
- Intensive Care Unit
Dr Rita Oladele
- HIV (histoplasmosis)
TBD
- Solid Organ Transplantation
